HPI’s Objectives are:

  • Design and implement strategic health interventions to enable workplaces and communities access care closer to them
  • Aid in the enforcement of general occupational, health and safety (OHS) acts, rights and duties of both employees and employers.
  • Improve the quality of life of people by empowering them to gain control over the determinants of diseases like Malaria, HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and other health related issues.
  • To help organizations create a more health sensitive environment for employees through provision of a wellness program that enables staff to live fuller and more productive lives.
  • Conduct research to guide the creation, implementation, evaluation and advancement of public health interventions.

A word from the Executive Director
Health is a major asset in one’s life to enable one to carry out their dailyactivities effectively. Having a healthy community is a great advantage to the economy of a nation as it enhances the productivity of its’ human resource. However communities still face a number of factors that challenge their health status especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. Full Article

Education and Communication

Health Education and CommunicationCampaigns are one  of the  most successful tools HPI uses to reach our target  groups. We understand  that  choices to  adapt behaviors that promote good health start with a shift in mindset.

The HPI Edu-tainment team implements  innovative  communication techniques most fitting to the specific target audience. For some in town  settings  like Kampala, literature  such as illustrative  posters, brochures, urban radio, SMS messages may start a change process yet others in remote areas change messages through community "Bizindaro" or market place announcements systems, community radio health talk shows such as the famous Radio Pacis in the West Nile region, Mega fm in Gulu, Voice of Kigezi in Kabale, Voice of Muhaburwa  in Kisoro are effective. Some popular  topics we have aired include  male involvement in family health including couple testing and family planning,benefits of HIV testing,advantages, myths and misconceptions of Safe Male Circumcision(SMC). Among mobile populations, health drives, community dramas, health dialogues and videos in the local video halls, army barracks and church halls may just do the trick.In schools engaging  health talks with personal testimonies have been particularly successful especially in HIV/AIDS,Sexual and Reproductive health topics.

Our health education methods  are versatile and therefore suitable for a variety of health promotion topic areas. For example in areas where new tarmac roads are being constructed HPI has been contracted to educate communities on safety issues especially the risks of busy tarmac highways often constructed across communities  that have never experienced heavy vehicle traffic. We are keen to implement communication campaigns that arrest the attention of the masses to awaken them to the urgency of the desired change/behavior.
